Summer and Don’s Thanksgiving Weekend Wedding {Savannah Wedding Photographer}

Summer and Don live in Charleston so they are used to this lovely fall weather and wanted to get married in our beautiful city. Their families however, came from colder climates , West Virginia, Pennsylvania and Ohio so this must have really felt like a vacation as those states are starting to get down right chilly this time of year. Add to the beautiful weathers a stay at the Azalea Inn and Gardens, I wonder how any of them will ever be able to leave. The hospitality, food and accommodations make this Bed and Breakfast a favorite of all who enter their doors. The Innkeeper makes you part of the family right away so a wedding held there is handled with care.

The officiant for the ceremony was Chad Baker from Coastal Savannah Weddings and he provided the couple with a calming presence and sweet spirit. The children were looking forward to the bird seed throwing and we all got a bit of a kick out of watching them have fun with it. Best wishes Summer and Don and your families as you travel back home. You are now part of Savannah by being wed here and we wish all of your families the best.

A band, bouquet and boutonnière.

On January 6, 1987, in Weisbaden Germany, a military doctor placed this band around my newborn daughter’s wrist, “girl DeBlasio” entered the world.

Tomorrow (11-11-11) at Makapuu beach park on Oahu, Hawaii, Sean will place a band on her ring finger and she will become Mrs. McDevitt.

As a mother, I am so excited for them and my friends can’t believe that I will not be there but as a wedding photographer, I understand the romance of a destination wedding. What a better way to have the intimate ceremony and the honeymoon all in one. I think it is a perfect plan!!!

I sent out an email to all of the women in Rena’s life asking for brooches to be included in a bouquet for her to carry on her wedding day and a boutonnière for Sean. Sean’s mother sent a beautiful sterling silver brooch from Kelantan, Malaysia that she had bought over 20 years ago and never worn but had kept in the box for a special occasion. She also also sent the Texas Bluebonnet state flower pin that became part of his boutonnière. Rena’s grandmother’s sent brooches that had belonged to not only themselves but also their mothers and grandmothers, aunts and friends went shopping for brooches to be included and it was all kept as secret as her father and I worked on it each night.

When Rena was 10 years old, she gave me a brooch with the letter M for mother’s day, it is now her’s again “Mrs. McDevitt”. There is a palm tree and a pineapple to represent Hawaii, two fish brooches for Sean to represent his years as a swimmer (he swam on the UGA swim team) I did their engagement shoot at a peacock farm so there is a peacock, two wise owls ( Rena for her Masters in English Education and Sean for his MBA) and the list goes on for the 57 brooches. This is a way for ALL of us to be there with them during their big day and a keepsake forever.

To honor Sean’s Korean heritage, I found the most beautiful oriental fabric for the handle and finished it off with black feathers. Sean and Rena were friends for years while attending the University of Georgia together but it was not until she had graduated and was teaching in Austin, Texas and he was finishing up his MBA at the University of Oregon that the friendship turned to romance. His frequent trips to Texas to woo her became the theme behind his boutonniere, an antique skeleton key and the Texas bluebonnet tell the story that he stole the key to her heart in Texas.

The difficult part for me is not that I am not there, it is in waiting for the photos from the big day!!

Karla and Ed { Savannah Wedding Photographer }

It looked like rain when I pulled up to meet Karla and Ed for their engagement session last Saturday. I had left my flash at home, I was determined to shoot with my 50mm 1.2 and not be tempted to pull out my flash to use as fill light so the clouds made me a bit nervous. I forgot all of that as Karla introduced me to Ed, Karla had been a bridesmaid in Lyndsay’s wedding but it was my first time meeting her sweetheart. It was quickly evident that they are very much in love and willing to have fun in front of the camera. Tonight as I sat down and began to edit the photo’s, I wanted to pull a few out to show a bit of their playfulness and the amazing light that ended up shining through the dark clouds as we explored the grounds and talked about their wedding in April. Enjoy your engagement Karla and Ed, it will be your wedding day before you know it.

I am so lucky to just live minutes from downtown Savannah and be able to shoot amazing weddings and engagement sessions there, BUT I love to just go around the corner from my home and get to “do it up country style”. I moved here 18 years ago and do not take for granted the beautiful county that I live in. Brandalyn and Matt brought their boots, truck and cute southern accents and were ready to play for the camera. They are so sweet and are so laid back about their wedding this fall, they just want to be married. Enjoy.

Every girl remembers the moment that she got engaged and I am fortunate enough to get to relive this moment through a shoot such as this. Brad planned this as a surprise for Misty for quite a while. She had pretty much decided that after almost five years (next month) of being together, that they were not going to get engaged for quite some time. I casually mentioned to her that I was conducting mini-sessions on the beach and she talked Brad into it (tee hee). I cancelled it once and tried to reschedule it for October just to throw her off. We spent about half an hour shooting near a marina then headed over to the beach and they started picking up shells and there was a heart shaped one hiding there just for her. Yes, there are many other shots of them but I though I would just add a few of the “moment” here. Best Wishes to one of the sweetest couples that I know. It is a privilege to introduce Misty and Brad.

Taylor and Denny { Styled Couple Session}

I met Taylor and Denny last fall when I photographed Denny’s brother’s wedding. It was evident then that these two were very much in love and enjoy spending time together. Taylor was our Miss St. Patrick’s Day Queen 2011 and is no stranger to the camera and can not take a bad photo. It was Denny who surprised me with his quiet playfulness and I hope that they had as much fun during this session as we did. Richard and Victoria met me at at Wormsloe for a photoshoot while he was home on leave. We spent the time talking about their plans for their marraige and his upcoming deployment to Iraq. Brandi and I have been trying to get this shoot scheduled for months. It was either to cold or lately the weather was very unpredictable. We could have not have chosen a better afternoon to meet up for an hour of fun with her two children and sweet boyfriend. Lindsay is going to be the next top model one day!!! She kept me laughing with her constant moves and Brent has the most adorable accent and is a very good big brother.

When you finally get to marry the girl of your dreams and your last name is Valentine, the obvious dream wedding takes place on or around Valentine’s day and includes the color red. Laura and Tommy are both singer/songwriters and owners of Lovenotes Records LLC and were ready to hit the stage!! They chose the lovely Flint Hill Mansion for the ceremony and reception and the weather could have not been better for their touching outdoor ceremony.

It was a pleasure to spend the day with Micah and her family on New Years Day. I have known them for many years and they are like family to me. This was the first time that I got to spend time with Josh and he fit right in!! I had been hearing about him for months from Micah and agree with her that they are truly meant for each other. Micah got ready at her parent’s home with her daughter and she and Josh spent some time together before the ceremony taking pictures around the countryside. I was really happy that they planned it that way as their ceremony was at a later time and they were just excited to get away from the hustle and bustle at the house and have fun in front of the camera. The best part for them was the fact that after the ceremony, it was straight to the reception to spend time with their families and friends and nobody was kept waiting. Their colors were festive and bright and their favours from the Vintage Bee Company were a big hit. Best wishes to Micah and Josh.

Tori and Remi { Savannah Wedding Photographer }

I still get so many compliments on Tori and Remi’s engagements shoot and if I could bottle up their chemistry and sell it, I’d be a millionaire!! It will come as no surprise that they brought this love and energy to their wedding day. Honestly this couple had the best time with their friends and families and I picked out just a few pictures to show some highlights:

A crafty wedding show.

At a recent bridal show held here in Savannah I came across a booth that was so excellent!!! Five vendors shared it including a photographer from the area that totally rocks. I took some pictures of some of the crafty details that made me swoon. I did not include a wide table shot because it featured many of the photographer’s photographs and she might not think it cool if I did that but it was so perfectly designed by AGH Event Maker. Fabrika provided many of the items to include the scented sachets that they gave away and I thought they would make the cutest favors. The shop offers bridal showers where the bridal party comes in, brings their own food and makes crafts to use on the wedding day such as the pictured table numbers. How much fun is that!!! Another favorite of mine was the fabric wedding invitation with the two birds on one side and the details on the other.
French Knot Stitch Boutique and Wild Fibre also had their wares displayed throughout the table and on additional displays. I love the signs for the bride and groom for the engagement photos, wedding day, thank you cards and even save the date signage. All of these vendors were so full of energy and so very creative. I think every bride should have a designer for her wedding to pull that look together, even the smallest wedding with the most simple details can be breathtaking if done by professionals. Whitney and Jason

Whitney contacted me a few months ago about doing some photos of her and her painted baby bump. Morgan Webb does a fantastic job and Whitney had even chose her own painting. I was a little nervous about what the weather could possibly be in mid-January but it was 70+ degrees for the first time in weeks. I arrived a few minutes early to get some photo’s of Morgan putting on the finishing touches. Whitney, Jason and I headed out for some urban and rural locations in Springfield and focused mostly on Whitney since Jason was on crutches. It is a good thing Whitney is in law enforcement because we had a cruiser pull into the alley a little concerned about what was going on with the exposed painted belly and me lying on the ground. Springfield does not see a lot of this on most Saturdays. Jason was standing there with some of her clothes and his crutches and though it was very funny. For the wooded scene—anybody who knows me is not surprised to see me pull furniture out of my vehicle for props and take into wooded areas but this entire set-up was ALREADY there!!! We had a great time and I’m so happy that they love their pictures. Best wishes to this very sweet and strong couple.

Ashley and TJ- { Statesboro Wedding Photographer }

Ashley and TJ choose to be wed the Saturday after Thanksgiving due to the fact that many family members would already be in town and also that the fall colors would be beautiful for their outdoor ceremony at The Belle House in Statesboro. Since the couple and all most of their friends are also avid Bulldog friends, it was also the day of the Georgia-Georgia Tech game so TJ’s grooms cake was a model of the stadium complete with “cupcake” fans from both teams. I was shocked not to see a single TV in the venue but I’m sure some smart phones were tuned in. A big thanks to Diana Daley for helping me capture this sweet couple’s big day.
